- BCM diagnostics utility, DOSDIAG.EXE, is a DOS based program
- designed to help you evaluate your system's motherboard or identify
- problem causes in the event of motherboard malfunctions. This
- program has been tested sucessfully with many newly released
- Intel Pentium, Pentium Pro, Pentium II, AMD K5, K6 and Cyrix 686
- motherboards, hoewever if you still encounter problems related to
- compatibility issues, please let us know.
-
-
- Notes
-
- 1. This program is best run under a clean-boot DOS environment
- either in floppy or hard disk with a mouse or without. Under DOS,
- DOSDIAG is able to access hardware directly and bypasses OS layer.
- Thus, hardware related problem can be detected more precisely.
- The DOSDIAG also runs under Win95 command prompt or DOS mode, but
- not under Win95 or Window 3.1 DOS box. The BCM Diagnostics for
- Win95 has a built-in short-cut to run DOSDIAG.
-
- 2. For burn-in test, this program can be run without user
- interface. Type DOSDIAG /? for instructions. If /T or /t is to
- be used to run selected test(s) in command mode, a DIAG.INI file
- needs to created first. Use space-bar to tag each selected test.
- A left arrow mark indicates test being selected. After all selected
- tests are tagged, exit program and DIAG.INI file will be created.
- Use "DOSDIAG /T" to run all selected test(s) in batch mode.
-
- 3. The Modem Test within serial port test is tested only with
- limited types of modem, such as modem with Rockwell chipsets.
- If you have a Plug and Play modem, it may not be enabled or
- initialized properly under DOS. Thus, DOSDIAG may have problem
- detecting your modem. Anyway, if you encounter modem problem
- with other chipsets, please let us know.
-
- 4. The Sound Test only works with Sound Blaster or compatible
- card. PNP sound card needs to configured with manufacturer's
- driver before test.
-
- 5. If you are using a serial port mouse to run Serial Port
- Test, you may lose mouse after test is done.
-
- 6. Loopback Connector Diagram:
-
- a. Serial Port:
- 1 -- 4 -- 6
- 2 -- 3
- 7 -- 8 -- 9
-
- b. Print Port:(*note)
- 1 -- 13
- 2 -- 15
- 11 -- 17
- 10 -- 16
- 12 -- 14
- (*note):ECP,EPP or Bi-Dir is required for loopback test.
-
- 7. For the factory, production, or burn-in environments:
- The switch "i" can be used on the following modules:
-
- SYSBRD.EXE, VGAT.EXE, BMEM.EXE and CDROM.EXE
-
- to force DOSDIAG to compare the current system to a known
- configuration.
-
- The Options menu can be used for the same purposes as well.
- Mark the options that need to be checked, and DOSDIAG will
- report error(s) if any deviation is found.
-
- For example, SYSBRD.EXE can be set to always check for the
- presence of the PS/2 mouse. This is done by generating an
- check file, "SYSBRD.CHK", by typing "sysbrd i" at the DOS
- command prompt. SYSBRD.EXE checks for the presence of this CHK
- file; if found, SYSBRD.EXE assumes the PS/2 mouse is installed
- and BCMDIAG will fail if it cannot detect it.
-
- For VGAT.EXE, the size of the video memory can be defined by
- generating a CHK file (type "vgat i" at the command prompt.)
- If this is done on a 2MB Video Memory configuration, a board
- which only has 1MB will be reported as a failure.
-
- For BMEM.EXE, the size of the system memory and secondary
- cache memory can be defined (type "bmem i" at the command
- prompt.) If this is done on a system with 16MB RAM and 256K
- cache, any deviation from this configuration will be reported
- as a failure.
-
- For CDROM.EXE, the presence of the CDROM.CHK file will cause
- CDROM.EXE to report error if no CD-ROM drive is detected.
-
- 8. F4 key is used to entry test loop count to run all tagged
- test(s), and F5 key is used to run all tests.
